Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small tree or shrubs, up to 5 m tall.
Exudates : Latex milky white.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, pairs unequal, decussate; petiole 1 cm long with a short clasping sheath at base; lamina 6.5-12 x 2.4- 4.5 cm, elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate, apex caudate-acuminate, acumen to 2 cm long, base acute, glabrous, pale beneath; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 7-9 pairs; tertiary_nerves reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers bisexual, in terminal corymbose cymes, white.
Fruit and Seed : Follicles 4 x 1 cm, oblong, apex caudate; Seeds many, arillate.

Ecology :

Understorey trees or shrubs, very common in medium elevation wet evergreen forests between 600 and 1400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri.

Status :

Lower risk: conservation dependent (IUCN, 2000).
