Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees up to 8 m tall.
Branchlets : Young branchlets angular, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole ca. 0.3 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 7-10 x 4.5-5 cm, elliptic to obovate, apex obtuse, base subcordate and asymmetric, margin serrate, glabrous; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves ca. 8 pairs; tertiary_nerves obliquely and distantly percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary solitary or racemes, 1-2 cm long; flowers sessile.
Fruit& seed : Drupe, cylindrical or ellipsoid, 1.1 cm long.

Ecology :

Rare understorey trees in wet evergreen forests between 1200 and 1400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats - Agasthyamalai.

status :

Endangered (IUCN, 2000).
