Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees up to 15 m tall.
Branches and branchlets : Branchlets terete, lenticellate, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; stipule lateral, caducous and leaving scar; petiole ca. 3.5 cm long, slightly canaliculate above, glabrous; lamina 8-11 x 3.8-4.8 cm, elliptic to elliptic - ovate, apex acute with mucronate tip, base acute to rounded, margin serrate, coriaceous, glabrous; midrib slightly canaliculate above; secondary nerves 8-14 pairs, slender; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence terminal corymbose; flowers white; pedicel ca. 0.5 cm.
Fruit and Seed : Drupe, subglobose; seeds 2-4.

Ecology :

Canopy trees in high elevation evergreen forests between 1800 and 2400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the southern Western_Ghats - Anamalai and Nilgiris.
