Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees up to 15 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Bark greyish brown, irregularly large flaky; blaze reddish.
Branchlets : Branchlets terete, stout, rufous pubescent when young.
Exudates : Latex milky white, profuse.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole 0.7-1.5 cm, slightly canaliculate, pubescent when young; lamina 4-11 x 1.5-5 cm, elliptic, apex acute to obtuse, base cuneate, margin undulate and revolute, thinly coriaceous, glabrous; midrib thinly raised above;.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary fascicles; flowers white, sessile.
Fruit& seed : Berry, obovoid; seeds one.

Ecology :

Canopy trees in medium and high elevation evergreen forests between 1300 and 2000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the southern Western_Ghats- Agasthyamalai, Anaimalai, Palani, Nilgiris, Wayanad and Coorg Region.
