Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Deciduous trees, up to 35 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark brownish, flaking in small scales, lenticellate; blaze reddish.
Branches and branchlets : Young branchlets terete, minutely grey pubescent.
Exudates : Latex white, profuse.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; stipules small caducous, leaving scars on either side of petiole; petiole 1-3 cm long, terete, grey pubescent; lamina 10-30. 5 x 5.5-11 (-16) cm, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, apex caudate-acuminate, base acute to rounded or subtruncate, margin entire (sometimes serrate when young), coriaceous, glabrous above except midrib, velvety grey pubescent beneath; midrib slightly raised above; secondary_nerves 10-14 pairs; tertiary_nerves broadly reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence axillary; flowers unisexual; male flowers in globose heads, peduncles 1-1.8 cm long; female flowers in globose heads, anthocarp completely united.
Fruit and Seed : Syncarp (sorosis), to 5 cm across, subglobose, yellow when ripe; seeds many.

Ecology :

Canopy or emergent trees in disturbed evergreen to semi-evergreen forests up to 1000 m.

Distribution :

South India and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- South, Central and Maharashtra Sahyadris.
