Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 12 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark finely fissured, light brown.
Branches and Branchlets : Young branchlets relatively stout, terete, densely rufous tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, subverticilate; petiole stout, up to 3.5 cm long, planoconvex in cross section; tomentose; lamina 12-22 x 5.5-10 cm, generally obovate sometimes oblanceolate, apex obtuse or bluntly acute to shortly acuminate, base narrow cuneate, rufous-tomentose beneath and on midrib above, glaucous beneath; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 8 or 9 pairs; tertiary_nerves nearly horizontally_percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, dioecious, fascicled on lateral tubercles.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, seed 1.

Ecology :

Canopy or subcanopy trees in high elevation evergreen forests between 1200 and 2400 m sometimes also found in medium elevation evergreen forests between 600 and 1200 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- recorded from west Anamalai, Nilgiris and Wayanad.
