Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Deciduous trees, up to 8 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark grey, scaly, blaze pinkish cream.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Exudates : Latex milky white.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, pairs unequal, decussate; petiole 0.6-2 cm long with a short clasping sheath at base; lamina 10-25 x 3-8.5 cm, narrow elliptic, apex caudate acuminate, base acute or attenuate with decurrent, margin entire, subchartaceous, glabrous; secondary_nerves 8-15 pairs; tertiary_nerves reticulate.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers in terminal cymes, white, fragrant.
Fruit and Seed : Follicles, boat-shaped, orange-yellow; seeds many arillate.

Ecology :

Along margin of the evergreen forests and common in moist deciduous forest, up to 850 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- from South Sahyadri to Maharashtra Sahyadri (south).

Status :

Lower risk: near threatened (IUCN, 2000).
