Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees, about 30 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark pale brown, flaky; blaze cream.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole 1.5-2 cm long, glabrous; lamina 10-17 x 2-9 cm, ovate-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base rounded, sometimes subpeltate, coriaceous, glabrous; midrib flat above; secondary_nerves ca. 8 pairs, domatia at the axils of secondary_nerves beneath; tertiary_nerves closely_obliquely_percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence axillary panicles, glabrous; flowers cream with petals twisted.
Fruit and Seed : Nut, 1.2-1.5 cm long, ovoid; calyx_accrescent with two enlarged lobes; seed 1.

Ecology :

Canopy trees in medium elevation evergreen forests around 1000 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- locally abundant in Kudremukh of Chikmagalur Region, Central Sahyadri.
