Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 15 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Trunk fluted; bark yellowish grey, smooth, lenticellate; blaze yellowish.
Branchlets : Branchlets terete, minutely yellowish pubescent.
Leaves : Leaves compound, usually paripinnate, sometimes imparipinnate, alternate, spiral, crowded at twig ends, 20-40 cm long; rachis pulvinate, terete, yellowish pubescent when young, later glabrous; petiolule 0.3-0.7 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, puberulous; leaflets 4-5 pairs, opposite, subopposite or alternate, 5-22 x 2.5-8 (-10 cm), usually size increasing towards apex, usually lower leaflets narrow ovate, upper leaflets elliptic-lanceolate, apex acuminate, base asymmetric, margin entire, chartaceous, glabrous; midrib slightly raised above; secondary_nerves 6-12 pairs; tertiary_nerves reticulo-percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary drooping panicles; flowers polygamodioecious; pedicels ca. 3 cm long.
Fruit& seed : Capsule, inflated, orange-scarlet, broader than long, 2-valved, to 2.5 x 5.5 cm; seeds 1-2 per cell, black, arillate.

Ecology :

Subcanopy trees in wet evergreen forests up to 1400 m.

Distribution :

Indomalaysia and Australia; in the Western_Ghats- South and Central Sahyadris.
