Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Shrubs or small treelets up to 7 m tall.
Branches and branchlets : Branchlets terete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves compound, bipinnate, alternate, spiral, pinnae one pair; stipules caducous; rachis 18-20 cm long, pulvinate, with a round gland just above the pulvinate; pinnae 7-12 cm long, with glands just below the each pair of leaflets; petiolule to 0.4 cm long; leaflets 2-3 pairs, opposite, increase in size towards apex, 8-20.5 x 3-6 cm, ovate- lanceolate, apex caudate-acuminate (acumen 1.5-2.5 cm long), base asymmetric, margin entire, green when dry, glabrous; midrib raised above; secondary nerves ca. 12 pairs; tertiary_nerves broadly percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence terminal panicle.
Fruit and Seed : Pods, twisted; seeds 5, black, ellipsoid.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in evergreen forests up to 900 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the southern Western_Ghats - western Anamalai, Palakkad hills, Wayanad.
