Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 10 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark smooth, brownish, lenticellate; blaze light orange.
Branches and Branchlets : Young branchlets terete, fulvous tomentose.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral, subverticilate; petiole 0.8-1.2 cm long, flat, densely fulvous tomentose; lamina 11-24 x 2-6.3 cm, narrowly long elliptic-oblanceolate, apex narrowly acute to acuminate; base narrowly cuneate, margin entire, chartaceous, densely tomentose on midrib and nerves beneath, glabrous above except midrib; midrib raised above; secondary_nerves 7-14 pairs, very oblique; tertiary_nerves closely_horizontally_percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers unisexual, dioecious, in umbels on short peduncle.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, black when ripe, seated on cup shaped fruiting_perianth; seed 1.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in wet evergreen forests between 900 and 2400 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri and Palakkad Hills.
