Botanical descriptions :

Diagnostic characters : Deciduous trees, bole fluted, bark flaky, twigs angular. Leaves simple, opposite without laminar dots and glands. Stipules absent. Flowers large, purple. Fruit a capsule, seeds winged.
Habit : Deciduous tree up to 15 m tall.
Trunk & bark : Bole straight or leaning, often fluted, bark pale grey or brown, flaking.
Branches and branchlets or twigs : Twigs angular, glabrous.
Exudates : Exudate absent.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, glabrous, elliptic, apex obtuse and acuminate, base attenuate, margin entire.
Midrib flat above, secondary veins obtuse, widely parallel, tertiary veins oblique.
Stipules absent.
Inflorescences or flowers : Flowers violet-pink, arranged in a many-flowered terminal panicle, bisexual, pedicels longer than 0,5 cm.
Fruits : Fruit capsule, up to 4 cm long, with 5-6 large teeth, splitting into 5 - 6 sections.
Seeds : Seeds many, winged.

Habitat and ecology :

Scattered in dry Dipterocarp forest and open forests.

Distribution :

Burma (Myanmar), Laos (Khammouan).

Remark/notes/uses :
Timber highly valued to make house pillars and boards. Sometimes planted as ornamental.
