Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees up to 7 m tall.
Trunk & Bark : Bark white, smooth; blaze brown.
Branches and branchlets : Branchlets terete, slender, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; petiole 0.5-0.7 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; leaf blade 6.5-13.5 x 2.5-6 cm, usually elliptic, sometimes narrow-elliptic, apex acuminate to caudate acuminate with blunt tip, base acute to attenuate or cuneate, margin entire, chartaceous, pellucid gland dotted; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 9-12 pairs, distant; tertiary_nerves horizontally reticulo-percurrent.
Inflorescence / Flower : Inflorescence in terminal or axillary divaricate cymes or solitary; flowers large; stamens numerous, crimson.
Fruit and Seed : Berry, ovoid, 2.5 - 3 cm long, crowned with persistent calyx.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in wet evergreen forests up to 1200 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to southern Western_Ghats- South, Central and south Maharashtra Sahyadris.
