Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Trees ca. 7 m tall.
Branches and Branchlets : Branchlets subterete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; petiole 0.2 cm long, canaliculate, glabrous; lamina 6.5-10.7 x 2.9-4.6 cm, oblong-ovate, apex obtuse, base rounded, margin entire, glabrous, coriaceous; midrib canaliculate; secondary_nerves faintly visible at least when dry; tertiary_nerves obscure.
Inflorescence / Flower : Flowers blue, fascicled, singly or in very short pedunculate cymes, generally on lateral tubercles.
Fruit and Seed : Berry; seed 1.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in medium and high elevation evergreen forests, between 1200 and 1600 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to the Western_Ghats- Anamalai, south Nilgiris.

Status :

Critically_endangered (IUCN, 2000).
