Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Large shrubs or small trees up to 5 m tall.
Trunk\bark : Bark brown, smooth.
Branchlets : Branches horizontal; young branchlets subterete to compressed, villous, glabrous when mature.
Leaves : Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipule triangular, interpetiolar, persistent; petiole to 1 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, pubescent when young; lamina 5.5-16.5 x 2.5-4 cm, narrow elliptic to elliptic-oblong, apex acuminate, base acute, margin entire, glabrous; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 6-7 pairs; tertiary_nerves horizontally closely percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence cymes, axillary or from leafless branches; flowers sessile, white.
Fruit& seed : Drupe, globose, surmounted with persistent calyx lobes; seeds 4.

Ecology :

Understorey trees in high elevation evergreen forests between 1800 and 2200 m.

Distribution :

Endemic to southern Western_Ghats- South Sahyadri.
