Botanical descriptions :

Diagnostic characters : Evergreen trees, bark smooth sometimes fissured, twigs hairy, exudates red. Leaves simple, alternate and distichous, below with stellate hairs. Flowers unisexual on different trees. Fruit capsule-like, seed with an aril.
Habit : Evergreen tree up to 20 m tall.
Trunk & bark : Bole straight, bark dark grey-brown, smooth, rarely tending to crack.
Branches and branchlets or twigs : Twigs terete, hairy.
Exudates : Exudate red.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate and distichous, oblong to lanceolate, apex acuminate, base rounded, margin simple, stellate hairs present below.
Stipules absent.
Inflorescences or flowers : Flowers arranged in a few-flowered inflorescence, axillary, on short shoots, unisexual, on different trees, pedicels up to 3 mm long.
Fruits : Fruit capsule like follicle, up to 1.5 cm in diameter, leathery, splitting in two sections.
Seeds : Seed 1, surrounded by an aril which is divided only at top.

Habitat and ecology :

Scattered in evergreen forest up to 800 m altitude.

Distribution :

Burma (South) (Myanmar), China (South), Malay Peninsula, Indonesia (Sumatra, West Java), Thailand Indochina, Laos Khammouan).
