Botanical descriptions :

Habit : Small trees up to 8m tall.
Branchlets : Young branchlets angular to subterete, glabrous.
Leaves : Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petiole 1-2 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 5-12.5 x 2-5 cm, elliptic to obovate, apex obtuse, base attenuate, margin serrate and slightly recurved, glabrous; midrib canaliculate above; secondary_nerves 5-10 pairs, looped near margin; tertiary_nerves obliquely and distantly percurrent.
Flowers : Inflorescence axillary racemes, 2-15 cm long; pedicel up to 0.4 cm long.
Fruit& seed : Drupe, ellipsoid, 1.6 cm long.

Ecology :

In high elevation evergreen forests between 1800 and 2400 m.

Distribution :

South India and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- Nilgiris and Anaimalai.
